When rain proves you got the dirt work right
Field notes from Alysha Ritter, operations manager at Ritter Dirt and Asphalt
It’s been a muddy kind of month—the kind where every truck tire leaves a story and every rainstorm reminds us why good dirt work really matters.
Just last week, I got off the phone with a client who couldn’t stop talking about his driveway. (And no, not because of the asphalt.)
He told me, “Alysha, I was standing at my window watching the rain come down, and it hit me—the design underneath says it all.”
This client had a beautiful setup: a sports court with a strip drain. He expected the water to run straight toward it. But as he watched the storm roll through, something different happened. The water didn’t rush toward the court. It quietly followed the grade we built, sliding right down the driveway as if it knew where it was supposed to go.
He said it looked like “mesmerized raindrops marching down the driveway.”
That kind of feedback makes the long day worth it.
Because that moment, that calm confidence when the rain falls and everything just works, is exactly why we take our Final First ApproachTM so seriously. Every grade, every slope, every bit of dirt we move is about making sure the final surface performs perfectly, not just looks good.
And here’s the part I love most: this client had booked his project over a year ago. He waited patiently, trusted the process and when the final asphalt went down, it was worth every bit of planning.
That’s the reminder I needed heading into next season.
Right now, we’re already looking ahead to spring 2026. If you have a project in mind—a house dig-out, an ADU site prep or even just cleaning up your grading before paving—now is the time to contact Ritter and start planning.
When you bring our local land grading and paving pros in early, we get to do what we do best: plan the base, protect the drainage and make sure your “final” is right the first time.
Rain or shine, it all starts with good dirt work.
Talk soon,
Alysha
P.S. If a friend or neighbor is thinking about a project, tell them to get in touch. We’d love to help them build something worth waiting for, and remember our referral program that rewards you for recommending Ritter Dirt and Asphalt.
