What 30 Years of Experience Looks Like
Have you ever watched someone do something and thought…
“How in the world did they know that?”
That happened to me this week.
We were out on one of our commercial site development projects when Jason suddenly stopped the excavator.
He looked at the ground and said,
“There’s something buried here.”
I looked down.
Honestly… I didn’t see anything.
Then he pointed to a subtle change in the color of the soil. A narrow, darker strip running through the excavation.
He smiled and said,
“I bet there’s a storm drain running right through there.”
About 12 inches later…
There it was.
Not because of luck.
Not because of a map.
Because after 30 years of building sites, he had trained his eye to notice something most people would drive right past.
That moment reminded me why experience matters.

When people see a finished parking lot, roadway, or commercial development, they see asphalt, concrete, and equipment.
What they don’t see are the hundreds of decisions that happen long before the project is complete.
They don’t see someone recognizing a hidden utility before it becomes a costly delay.
They don’t see a drainage issue being corrected before water becomes a problem.
They don’t see a crew coordinating materials, utilities, schedules, and inspections to keep an entire project moving.
That’s the part of construction we love.
Because successful site development isn’t about moving the most dirt.
It’s about making the right decisions before they become expensive problems.
Whether we’re preparing a commercial property, a school, an HOA, a municipality, or a private development, our responsibility is always the same:
✔ Think ahead.
✔ Communicate early.
✔ Solve problems before they cost time and money.
✔ Build something we’re proud to put our name on.
Anyone can rent equipment.
Experience can’t be rented.
It’s earned one project at a time.
That’s why our clients continue to trust Ritter with some of their most important projects.
Because they’re not just hiring someone to excavate or pave.
They’re trusting us to protect one of their biggest investments.
If you’re planning a commercial site development project—or even a residential project where getting it right the first time matters—we’d love the opportunity to show you what experience looks like.
